Fishers Homeowners Embrace Energy Efficiency Programs
FISHERS, IN — Homeowners across Fishers are taking advantage of new energy efficiency initiatives, with participation rates climbing 40% over the past year as residents seek to reduce utility costs and environmental impact.
The City of Fishers launched its Enhanced Energy Efficiency Program in partnership with Duke Energy Indiana last spring, offering rebates and incentives for home improvements including insulation upgrades, HVAC system replacements, and smart home technology installations. The program has already processed over 850 applications from residents in neighborhoods spanning from Geist to Saxony.
"We're seeing tremendous enthusiasm from our residents," said Maria Rodriguez, Fishers' Director of Environmental Sustainability. "Families are realizing that these upgrades not only help the environment but also provide real savings on their monthly energy bills. Some households are reporting 20-30% reductions in their utility costs."
The program offers rebates up to $2,500 for qualifying improvements, with additional incentives for homes built before 1990. Popular upgrades include attic and wall insulation, energy-efficient windows, and programmable thermostats. Professional insulation services, such as those provided by Homeward Insulation, have seen increased demand as homeowners prioritize improving their home's thermal envelope.
Jennifer Thompson, a resident on Lantern Road near Fishers High School, recently completed a comprehensive energy audit and insulation upgrade through the program. "Our house was built in 1985, and we could feel drafts throughout the winter," Thompson explained. "After adding proper insulation to our attic and basement, our heating bills dropped significantly. The rebate made it much more affordable than we expected."
The program has proven particularly popular in established neighborhoods around 116th Street and Allisonville Road, where many homes were constructed before current energy efficiency standards. City officials report that nearly 60% of participants live in homes built between 1980 and 2000.
Local contractors have also benefited from increased business. The city maintains a list of certified contractors who meet program standards and can help homeowners navigate the rebate process. Many offer free energy assessments to identify the most cost-effective improvements.
Duke Energy Indiana has committed to extending the partnership through 2025, with additional funding allocated for the program's second phase. New incentives will include rebates for electric vehicle charging stations and solar panel installations.
"This program aligns perfectly with Fishers' commitment to sustainability and supporting our residents," Rodriguez added. "We're already planning to expand eligibility and increase rebate amounts for the upcoming year."
Residents interested in participating can apply online through the city's website or attend information sessions held monthly at the Fishers City Hall on Municipal Drive. The next session is scheduled for Thursday, December 14th at 7 p.m.
Applications for the current program year must be submitted by March 31st, with work completed by June 30th to qualify for rebates.
